Dennis Queen and Taylor Nesbitt dual over Late Model Sportsman win
Newport, TN –
The old racing adage of “racing on a full moon, is when all the crazy races happen” couldn’t have been truer on Saturday night May 5th, at Newport Motor Speedway.  Although the
historic “Super” moon made it’s appearance late into the evening, Mother Nature had moved in earlier in the day, and made the temperature a bit cooler, and cooler temps on the 26 degree banked 4/10’s mile track, made the speeds “super” fast.
Gary Goddard started the Late Model Sportsman division race on the pole, with 8 other hungry racers chomping for not only the green flag to get the 50 lap feature race, but also for the valuable ASA National points.  From lap one, Taylor Nesbitt in her third start for 2012 took the early lead and was able to pull to a strong lead in her #92 Chevrolet.  The event was slowed by two cautions flags, the first was #81 Josh Evans lost grip in his machine and went for a spin.  The field was bunched, but Nesbitt was able to hold off the tight competition to lead 20 laps.  Lap #23 saw the smoke show appear, as Randy Ollis #10 machine erupted in smoke entering turn one.  Ollis was safely able to pull down pit road and retire his machine from the event.  Upon the green flag, Dennis Queen, also driving a #92 machine was able to pass Nesbitt on the high side, and never look back, en route to his first visit to Newport Motor Speedway’s victory lane for 2012.

“It’s been forever to get this win.  I would like to thank everyone, the fans, the racers, my crew, and the officials.  To everyone thank you,” exclaimed the excited Queen.  “Man, I really didn’t think that I was ever going to be able to visit victory lane again, but we never gave up, and here we are.”

Picking up the checkered flag in the support divisions included Herb Maniette in the Street Stock division, Greg Stephens in the front wheel drive division, Josh Beal in Mod 4, Tyler Goodwin extended his winning streak in the INEX Legend car division, Jarred Wright celebrated in Mini-Cup, while Opie the Destroyer thrilled the fans again in the ever popular Pure Stock division.

Newport Motor Speedway will be back in action this Saturday night as Late Model Sportsman are scheduled to race 50 laps, along with Street Stock, Front Wheeled Drive, Mod 4, Legends, Mini-Cup, and Pure Stock.  For more information, visit the fastest site on the web at www.newportmotorspeedway.com.
